FAQs

Learn more about our Trewithen standards and delicious products.

What are the Trewithen trew farming standards?

Companies now queue up to tell you what they believe. But let us tell you what we actually do. We look after the land and it’s long-term health, we tread as lightly as we can, we farm for the future; we and all our dairy farmers are signed up to, and happy to be judged by, these more than rigorous benchmarks. Trew farming is better farming, with higher standards. As standard.

Are Trewithen products pasteurised and suitable for pregnant women?

All our products are made from pasteurised milk, and suitable for pregnant women but always consult with a health professional if you are ever unsure.

Can I buy Trewithen products for my shop, cafe or restaurant?

Please contact our team on 01208 228700 or email hello@trewithendairy.co.uk and we’ll be happy to help.

Are your cows grass fed?

As part of the Trew Farming commitment, all our farmers cows must be provided with a minimum of 120 days per year of grazing in the pastures and many of our farmers achieve in excess of this. This is independently audited as an extension to the existing annual Red Tractor audit. When the weather is inclement and cows are housed inside, locally grown forages make up a high proportion of their diet.

Can you freeze double cream in its carton?

Yes, you can freeze double cream straight in its carton. If the carton is full, pour out an inch or two of the cream first to allow for expansion when it freezes.

What’s the difference between Cornish clotted cream and double cream?

Clotted cream is made by allowing milk to sit for 12-24 hours, then slowly heating and cooling it again, while double cream is mechanically separated. Clotted cream must have a minimum butterfat content of 55 percent and has a unique slightly yellow colour due to high carotene levels in the grass.  Double cream in the UK must contain at least 48% butterfat.

How long does double cream last once opened?

Like most cream products, double cream should be consumed before the ‘use by’ date and kept refrigerated. Fresh cream typically has a shelf life of several days once opened and should be kept below 5°C.

Is Cornish double cream suitable for vegetarians?

Yes, Cornish double cream is typically suitable for vegetarians, as indicated on product packaging.
